How To Help These instructions pertain to adults only! Children should never handle any type of wildlife due to injury or disease and parasites. Watch the animal from a distance and pay attention to what you are observing. Is the animal breathing, gasping, walking etc. If the animal is in the road, or was in someone's mouth, then you may contain the animal if this is something you feel comfortable doing. Please remember to always wear gloves or use a towel. Do not ever handle the animal directly. You may even use a shovel, gently to place them in a box. TCWC does not recommend you handle certain animals without the proper training. Such as hawks, owls, herons, and bats. You may call TCWC at 209-547-3233. Please do not email if you have a question that requires an immediate response. If you leave a message and don't hear back from us within the hour, please call back and leave another message. Once you reach a volunteer member we will ask certain questions to determine what the situation is and what action needs to be taken. Our volunteer members will be sure to instruct you whether to leave the animal alone, or how to properly contain the animal and bring it to TCWC , or if a volunteer may assist and pick up the animal. We ask that you remember TCWC is run by volunteers. So our response time is determined by being able to find a volunteer who can assist and come to the animal. Our main focus is rehabilitating the animals and their direct care. If we have a volunteer available to help pick up an animal we will respond accordingly. Always call TCWC first. We are not always available as we may be involved in taking care of the animals. We take in an average of 200 to 300 animals per year. Our focus is on providing the best possible care for the animals. When you phone TCWC, or bring an animal to TCWC, we will ask you questions about yourself and anything you may know about the animal you have bought to us. TCWC does not charge a fee to care for the animal, but your thoughtful donation is gratefully appreciated. We depend completely on your kindness and donations to feed, house, and care for our wildlife. Please click on the link below to see how you can HELP! TCWC does not have any animals on display. We feel for the safety and care of the animals keeping human exposure to a bare minimum is best. |
